My Ranking of Carly Rae Jepsen's Albums and B Sides
So for my next blog entry I decided to rank Carly Rae Jepsen's discography. Let the record show that I will not be doing her first album Tug of War. I will only be doing the albums and B sides she has released when I discovered her. With that being said I want to preface by saying I am pissed...royally pissed. Till this day Carly is only known for her 2012 hit track "Call me Maybe". Why does this piss me off? Because she has released some of my favorite pop albums in the past 5 +years. As a songwriter, she has this knack for writing catchy pop songs. yet no other song has really hit since "CMM". This is a travesty but this is not a profile piece this is a ranking. So let's begin shall we?

Keiynon Lonsdale is out here making bops and y'all sleeping on him.
From the moment I listened too and saw the visuals for "Preach" by Keiynon Lonsdale I was mystified by his talent. In fact before you read this I need you watch the video linked below! Go watch It.
My homeboi gave me vocals, visuals and choreography that had me screaming yasssssss. With his first album titled "Rainbow Boy" coming out on the 29th I had to do my next blog post on Mr. Lonsdale. I have been singing this man's praises since either late 2018 or early 2019. The first time I saw him was in a little movie called Love Simon, I was like who the heck this fine ass man. Immediately I started doing some research on him. What I learned is that he is a singer, dancer, actor, Half Nigerian, Australian queer boy. Mind was fucking blown!!! It is always fucking amazing to have representation out there. As a queer African myself it makes me feel fucking seen. Keiynon speaks to me for many reasons, the main one being his identity or lack thereof. The actor and performer identifies as not straight. For him its not important to use a label, he references himself as gay at times. In 2020 gay is also just a umbrella term for not straight. Asides from that he is very gender non conforming cis man. Not afraid to be fierce and femme in a business that is so image conscious. Most importantly he out here making bops and yall sleeping on him. YALL will respeck his motherfucking name. Last year he released his underappreciated bop "Rainbow Dragon". That track changed my fucking life. All last year I would play it over and over and over cause it became my obsession. The feeling that song gave me was like weed without the side affects. It made me powerful and beautiful, proud and passionate. In a over 3 mins song this man spoke to my fucking soul. Music has helped me through so many fucking hard times. Its music like Keiynon's that has inspired me to tell anyone who will listen about the music that speaks to me. Side note the video for Rainbow Dragon is such a beautiful video.
I hope that when the album drops my little queerlings find something that moves you. Thank you Keiynon for making me feel seen and heard. Your story is unique and your path is yours and yours alone. With that being said having someone who is like me be out and successful....Proud. Is something as a young boi I did not think I would have. Now I will spam y'all with pics of Keiynon.

KIng Princess: The New Nonbinary Lesbian Pop Queen?
King Princess. For some that name is familiar for others you are probably saying...who the fuck is that? Well they are a queer pop star that made a splash in 2018 with their hit song "1950". A queer pop alt rock song about PDA and same sex couples. It became quite a hit on the US Alt chart peaking at 17 and being certified platinum. King Princess released her debut EP entitled Make My Bed on June 15th 2018. From the moment I started researching them I became enthralled with her songs and songwriting. She is hands down one of my favorite artists and her songs are consistently resonating with my young-ish queer soul. You would not think a twinky white lesbian would be such an inspiration to me, yet their music speaks to my soul. Unfulfilled desires, queer longing and heartbreak? Sign me Up. As a song writer she depicts the queer experience with such honesty. If you want to know more about them, I will gladly post some links. This post is not about her history but about the music. How they have made such an impression in the pop world. What they represent for me and the LGBTQIQA2P+ community.
Despite the fact that KP has the privilege of being thin, yt and some would say conventionally attractive...I fucking love them. Yes I have a lil crush on them, I am a bit ashamed as they are such a representation of my old type. The skinny yt that I lusted after because I hated myself. Sometimes my attraction to them makes me feel like I have not truly evolved. I digress as that is for a whole nother blog entry. What really attracts me to King is their sultry voice, stunning visuals and songwriting. On October of last year they released their debut album Cheap Queen. I had waited for months for the album to come out. Eagerly waiting for KP to come and slay my life....put me in my feels and sexually confuse me. (I am demisexual and ace flux so the feels I get throw me off).
From the moment I hit play KP had me hooked. The album is hands down one of the best albums I have ever heard. The way that they attack their fears, their heartbreak and loss of love; the vulnerability of the album is awesome. The quality of yearning and pain in their voice unsettles me every time. Not in a bad way but in way where I say DAMN been there sis. The album is also very diverse from songs about heartbreak (If you think it's love, Watching my phone, do you wanna see me crying, and you destroyed my heart). Fear (tough on myself), bottoming (Hit The Back), and great bops like (Prophet, Cheap Queen, Ain't Together, and Homegirl). The entire album is an emotional roller coaster. Cheap Queen is essential listening for young queers. So that begs the question is KP our reigning nonbinary lesbian pop Queen? Well I will let you be the judge, listen to the album. Linked below will be a video I did on KP of my top songs and where to find their work.

Boomkat: A band That Deserved So Much More.
As a young baby gay I discovered this interesting band featuring an actress that I had such a crush on. Her name was Taryn Manning and boiiii was I in awe of her. So imagine my surprise when I discovered she makes Trip Hop music with her brother Kellin. That was when I went on the search to hear this mystical music. Boii was I surprised when my ears instantly came from the BooMKat sound.
Taryn and Kellin Manning are the brother sister team that is Boomkat. The best way to describe their music is a mix of trip hop, pop,and pop rap. Taryn provided the lead vocals and raps, while Kellin was the man behind the beats. They also wrote all their songs together. They released their first single "The Wreckoning" on May 19th 2003 (UK release). That was 17 years ago today,I was exactly 11 years old at the time. So Happy Anniversary to their first lead single "The Wreckoning". Their debut album was entitled Booomkatalong. One and its hands down one of my all time fave albums. I have the CD and it was one that I bumped often. The album was a mix of pop rap (Now Understand This), slow R&B breakup song (Answers), electro-pop (The Wreckoning,Rip her to Shreds) and etc. It was a very diverse album and featured a little bit of something for everyone. The album peaked at #88 on the Billboard US Albums top 100. The reception was mixed, some really enjoyed it, others not so much. Despite that I am still surprised that the band is not talked about as much. They experimented with sounds and beats that contemporaries do in today's current pop ring. Is it possible that maybe just maybe the album was a little too experimental. Most of the album would not be on the radio today. Boomkat released their second album entitled "A million trillion stars" in 2009. The album was met with a more positive reception than the first. The album definitely had more hip hop/electronic elements. The album took 6 years to release, but its a quality album.
The point of all this info is that it just confuses me why their sound never really reached a wider audience. They had such a great image and musical sensibilities. Taryn has one of the most interesting voices, both whispery and light but also grainy. Her rhymes are not half bad either and Kellin's production is A1. Boomkat deserved so much more. They are technically still together so I hope for a new album soon.
